Engineering Design Process and Renovations

We decided to go with idea 1 which is a layered filtration system that collects a greater amount of particles as it flows. With the results after the first test, we decided to make improvements in the design. Improvements included adding a second set of layers in the filtration system. Although adding layers helps with the filtration system, there is some negatives in adding layers.

Adding extra layers also increases the amount of water absorbed by the filter. As more sand is added, the greater the amount of water is absorbed. The price also slightly goes up with the addition of more materials. Although the price goes up, it's not much of an issue due to the fact that the materials are easily accessible. The cost to make this product is at around $1 due to the fact that almost all the materials can be gathered from the environment.
